Chapter 12

The storm let up about 30 minutes later. Still on a high from the events from earlier, we couldn’t keep our hands off each other. Electricity was pulsating between us and lust filling our eyes.

It was only when we pulled up to my house that my arousal doused, the sight of a familiar car snapping my attention away from heated thoughts of Finn. “What’s my dad doing here?” I asked, without thinking. Finn shrugged, putting the car in park as he got out, moved around the car and got my door while offering a hand.

“Dunno, looks like your sister isn’t feeling too hot.” He said, hand staying with mine even when Dad’s penetrating stare bore into him.

Oh boy, it looked like today would be ‘introduction’ day. Hopefully Finn was ready. Before we made our way over, I muttered low enough for him to hear. “You can still run if you do it now.”

Finn snorted, his grip staying firm on me as he shook his head. “Not happening. I care what he thinks of us, because it’d hurt you if he disapproves, but nothing he could say would send me running.”

I sure hope that holds out…

Nodding, I led him over, Dad’s eyes locked hard on him and the hand securely wrapped with mine. Hannah, for her part, looked sick as a dog. Her face was flushed, so much so you could still see it in the dark of night. She leaned heavily on Dad, the picture of misery twisted my heart as I waved.

“Hey, you not feeling good?” I asked, and Hannah shook her head. That’s when Dad broke in, eyes still throwing daggers at Finn.

“I got a call from work, I gotta head in and obviously I can’t leave her alone like this. I was wondering if she could stay the night with you?” he paused, still glaring holes into Finn’s head. “But now it looks like I’m in need of an introduction. You forgot to tell us something, pumpkin?”

Considering how new everything between Finn and I was, it’d been more like I hadn’t wanted to subject him to my father, but I guess it was unavoidable now. To his credit, Finn didn’t flinch or back down. Instead he waited patiently for me to take the lead. I did, after a minute of mild terror.

“Yeah, I did. Dad, Hannah. This is Finn, my boyfriend. Play nicely, I like him.” The warning was clear, though I doubted Dad would listen. Sure enough, one of his brow rose in disbelief as he eyed Finn warily.

“Finn, heard a lot about your restaurant.” Okay, that was a good start, maybe this wouldn’t be so-.

Dad’s eyes narrowed, something predatory and lethal glinting behind them as he continued. “I’ve also heard about your habit of sleeping around.”

Welp, there went any hope of this going well. Before I could defend Finn, he did it himself. Standing straight and tall despite the inches my father had over him, he spoke with a clear and calm voice.
